Return to "You Tell Me!"

Marti Haykin drawing

The Jester

I am the jester of the silent king,
And with my jokes I can defy them all;
I laugh and dance, with summersaults I bring
Fake smiles to courtsmen who just rise and fall,

I am the jester of the silent king,
He wears a crown and I a hat with horns;
He has to rule while I am damned to sing,
For him I'm nothing but a rose with thorns.

I am the jester of the silent king.
I have so many faces that I fear
I'll change my real self for a good drink
And trade my smile for ever for a tear.
