Artist's Statement

Printmaking allows several opportunities throughout the process to be inventive and creative. There is an incredible amount of energy that extends into the production of a print. It is impossible not to thrive on this energy because it provokes thought and stimulation. As the print continues to evolve, there are many decisions to be made, and as a result, the process itself influences the content of my prints.

Currently, the common element throughout my work is primates, particularly chimpanzees. I incorporate the chimps to serve as metaphors for the irony, humor, angst, and hope of humanity.

Lori Penn received her Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Georgia College & State University in May of 2001. She is currently in her second year of graduate school at Louisiana State University pursuing a Master of Fine Arts degree in Printmaking.
